Week 5

Hi Students! Week 5 is already here... and with it, our first major assignment! Please remember to bring the following things to class with you NEXT week (week 6) to turn in for a grade (15% of your overall course grade.)

1. Pre-writing

2. Outline - TYPED and in correct format

3. Rough Draft - with the marks you are adding in class this week

4. Peer Editing Sheet - filled in by another student

5. Self Editing Sheet - filled in by you

6. Final Copy - TYPED and perfect!

You will be graded on each of the 6 parts, so do not forget any of them!

Also, as a reminder, you should follow standard formatting for college papers. I have attached a PPT to remind you how to format your papers.

Next week we will be editing the rough drafts of your first major writing assignment. This will be a logical division of ideas paragraph. It should only be ONE PARAGRAPH in length.

Next week, please bring to class your pre-writing, outline, rough draft, and the peer and self-editing sheets for chapter which are found on page 206 and 207 of the textbook.

Homework for this week is due at the BEGINNING of class next week. Please write your homework on A4 paper, or make a photocopy from your textbook.

Welcome back students!

Here are the two ppts we will be going over in class this week. You need to be familiar with the concepts in the "Review" ppt. If something is brand new to you, you are already behind and you need to work to get caught up. You should be familiar with:

• what a sentence is
• the 4 types of sentences - especially simple and compound
• sentence fragments
• run-on sentences
• comma splices
• the writing process
• the three parts of a paragraph
